Queen Of Creole Cuisine: Lena Richard Broke Color Barriers In Cooking Industry

Trained chef Lena Richard was an African American celebrity chef in New Orleans in 1949. Her cooking show was so popular, it aired twice a week. She taught viewers how to prepare Creole dishes from her own cookbook. As well as the first black woman to host a cooking show, Richard also broke barriers as an acclaimed author, restaurant owner, and frozen food entrepreneur. She used her experiences to help improve the lives of African Americans in her community.
