President Of The US Soccer Federation Steps Down After Backlash From Controversial Document

The US women’s national soccer team filed a lawsuit due to the need for equal pay compared to the US men’s national soccer team. The women’s team has won four Women’s World Cup titles, four Olympic gold medals, and eight Confederation of North, Central American, and Caribbean Association Football Gold Cups. Even so, the United States Soccer Federation filed a brief in response to the lawsuit with a statement which infuriated many, saying that women “do not perform equal work requiring equal skill [and] effort.” This statement caused immediate backlash, causing the President of the US Soccer Federation to step down. He was replaced by Cindy Parlow Cone, the first woman to take on this role.
