Hundreds Attend Memorial To Celebrate NASA Researcher Katherine Johnson

African American mathematician and NASA researcher Katherine Johnson died on February 21, 2020 at the age of 101. Johnson was celebrated as a mathematician for making important calculations for early NASA space missions. More than 700 people attended Johnson’s memorial at Hampton University Convocation Center to celebrate the pioneering black female space scientist. In her lifetime, Johnson was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom and was portrayed in film “Hidden Figures” (2016).
