Bots are electronic codes that automatically create messages on social media. Many bots send negative messages to politicians. A Canadian woman created a bot that sends positive messages instead. Lana Cuthbertson wanted to inspire more women to enter politics. Her ParityBOT finds negative messages sent to female politicians on Twitter. The bot counters these negative tweets by automatically sending positive ones. Anyone can submit a positive message to be considered. These “positivitweets” were sent to women who ran in Canada’s federal election in September 2019. Volunteers will soon be surveying the politicians to see if ParityBOT made a difference.
