In September 2019, black women business leaders led a panel at the Congressional Black Caucus’s Legislative Conference in Washington, DC. Black women may experience workplace discrimination because of their hair or fashion choices, said panelists. Companies and states are starting to ban this type of discrimination. The panelists also gave advice on how to move back into the workforce after being full-time moms or caregivers. Women returning to a job should value the leadership skills they learned while running a home. Employers today are more understanding about the effort that goes into nontraditional types of work.
