Teen Climate Activist Greta Thunberg Protests Dakota Pipelines

Greta Thunberg’s passionate speech to the United Nations on September 23, 2019, blamed world leaders for their inaction on climate change. Two weeks later, the 16-year-old continued her campaign in North and South Dakota. She joined activists on the Pine Ridge and Standing Rock reservations. Like Thunberg, the Lakota peoples want to stop oil companies from putting pipelines through their lands. They are concerned about the Keystone XL pipeline, which is planned for South Dakota. They are also protesting plans to double oil flow through the Dakota Access pipeline in North Dakota.
