A university research team in Australia studied the effects of taking a break from Facebook. They divided about 140 people into two groups. One group stayed off Facebook for five days. The other group kept using Facebook. After five days, the people in the first group had lower levels of the stress hormone cortisol in their bodies than the people in the second group. But they were less satisfied with their lives. This was probably because they felt cut off from their Facebook friends. For some people, it can be beneficial to step away from Facebook now and then. When they feel less stressed, they can return.
