One of Jupiter’s moons, Io, has a unique relationship with the planet. When the moon passes behind Jupiter’s shadow, the atmosphere collapses. This means that the sulfer-dioxide gas that makes up the atmosphere is frozen solid and drops down to the surface of the moon. This discovery shows how much can be learned from the probe to Jupiter’s orbit.
