Bubbles trapped in ice cores are allowing scientists to study the history of the earth’s atmosphere. By examining the bubbles, scientists can better understand the consequences of global warming and what will happen to plants and soil if the planet continues to warm. These bubbles were trapped during the Little Ice Age, which began around 1500.
