In 2016, Sports Illustrated created a poll through the Wishbone social media app. Sports Illustrated asked readers to weigh in on whether the Olympics inspired them to get involved in sports. The majority of Wishbone app users were young and female. Seventy-five percent of the of more than 100,000 people who took the poll said that the Olympics had inspired them to get involved in sports. Based on those results, Sports Illustrated concluded that the 2016 Olympics Games had inspired many young women to participate in sports.
