In 2016, the American Heart Association (AHA) found that US adults spent too much time sitting down, or being sedentary. The AHA reported that US adults were sedentary for about six to eight hours a day. They recommended that US adults stand and move more throughout the day. They cautioned that it is not enough to reach the recommended 30 minutes of moderate activity each day. Standing up and moving periodically throughout the day is also necessary to stay healthy and avoid heart disease.
