After watching the division rival Kansas City Royals win it all last year, the Detroit Tigers appear to be loading up for a championship run of their own in 2016. The team has added outfielder Justin Upton to a lineup that already has sluggers Miguel Cabrera, Victor Martinez, and J.D. Martinez. Upton signed a six-year contract that will pay him $132.75 million. Upton played with the San Diego Padres in 2015, where he hit 26 home runs with 81 RBIs. The Tigers have also bolstered their pitching rotation, adding free-agent starters Jordan Zimmermann and Mike Pelfrey. After a disappointing 74–87 record in 2015, the Tigers expect to challenge the Royals in the American League Central.
