Many heroes of the Civil Rights Movement never became as famous as Rosa Parks or Martin Luther King Jr. The March on Washington Film Festival remembers those who aren’t as well known as the famous leaders. One of the films focuses on Fannie Lou Hamer, who fought for black people’s right to vote in Mississippi. She received a jail beating for her efforts. The festival hopes that these lesser-known activists will inspire young people to continue the fight for civil rights.
