A new study found that the dive tourism industry in Mexico brings in about $455 to $725 million each year. That’s about the same as their fishing industry. About 91% of the diving businesses are small and run by families. They have fewer negative impacts on the ecosystems than the larger businesses. They also tend to give back more their communities. Researchers hope the study will lead to better ways to manage tourists and make diving more sustainable.
