Each year since 2011, the Environmental Partnership Association has hosted a European Tree of the Year contest. A 350-year-old pine tree growing in the Czech Republic took first place for the year 2020. This tree is known as “The Guardian of the Flooded Village.” It once grew near the village of Chudobin, but when the village flooded, this pine was the only tree left. Many other trees placed in this contest with their own stories. The goal of this contest is to inspire people to protect and conserve trees.
