A 103-year-old woman in Iran defied expectations. The novel coronavirus was dubbed a pandemic in March 2020. According to the World Health Organization, 3.4 percent of people who contract the coronavirus do not survive. That percentage goes up for the elderly with a 21.9 percent fatality rate. However, one 103-year-old woman was “discharged after making a complete recovery” according to Navid Danayi, the head of the Semnan University of Medical Sciences. A 91-year-old man in Iran also survived despite having other conditions that put him at even greater risk.
