Research shows that increasing numbers of people with disabilities are being elected to public office. The American with Disabilities Act, signed into law in 2990, has contributed to this increase. But the group as a whole is not represented proportionately. Data reveal that 10 percent of elected officials have a disability, but 15 percent of the US adult population is disabled.
