Heisman Winner Inspires Donations To Food Bank

The Heisman Trophy is the most important award in college football. Each year, it’s given to the best player in college football that season. In 2019, the winner was Joe Burrow, a quarterback for the Louisiana State University Tigers. Burrow, 23, grew up in Athens County, Ohio, where the poverty rate is high. Kids there often go hungry. During a speech Burrow gave after winning the award, he talked about the hungry kids. In response, thousands of Americans donated almost $500 thousand to the Athens County Food Pantry.
