Millions of children in the United States eat school lunches. The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) encourages schools to offer healthy food options through its Team Nutrition program. As a part of this program, schools earn points for the number of healthy food options they offer. Schools can earn gold, silver, or bronze medals based on how well they follow the program. As of 2015, more than 6,000 US schools had made changes to their food menus and nutrition education programs.
