According to US health officials, the 2016 flu season was relatively mild. Just one year earlier, in 2015, the United States experienced a rough flu season. In that year, an estimated 40 million Americans came down with the flu. But there were many less cases of the flu in 2016. Health officials attributed the mild flu season to better vaccines and to the fact that there were no new viruses that surfaced in the United States that year.
