Normally, what Eli Manning did on Sunday would make him the top performer of the week. The New York Giants quarterback threw for six touchdowns. But he was bested by the man on the other sideline. New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees threw for seven touchdowns in a 52–49 win over the Giants. Brees is just the third quarterback to throw seven touchdowns in a game since the AFL-NFL merger in 1970. His 511 yards make him the first quarterback in NFL history to throw that many touchdowns and have over 500 passing yards. He was on fire the whole game, and had four touchdowns and over 300 yards by halftime. In addition, the 13 combined touchdowns by the two teams was an NFL record, and the 101 points scored were the third-most all time.
