Orlando residents had a scare in September 2015 when an 8-foot (2.4 m) king cobra escaped from an animal rehabilitation ranch. The owner and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission were searching for the cobra in attempts to quickly find the venomous animal. A nearby school had cancelled outdoor activities and nearby residents were on the lookout for the snake.
