Scientists in Massachusetts have created the world’s first artificially-made limb. The team of scientists grew the arm of a rat entirely in a lab. Using a process called decellularization, the scientists were able to take a donor rat limb, strip it of the donor’s cells, and grow new rat cells on the resulting framework. The work is helping pave the way for this process to work on human limbs one day.
