Derek Jeter was the New York Yankees’ starting shortstop for 19 seasons before retiring this offseason. Didi Gregorius is being called on as his replacement. The Yankees acquired the 24-year-old Gregorius in a trade with the Arizona Diamondbacks in December. It’s expected that the Dutch shortstop might split time at the position with Brendan Ryan. Gregorius has experience performing on the big stage. In 2011, the government of the Netherlands knighted the player after his performance for the national team in the Baseball World Cup.
