Rivers are powerful and mysterious bodies of water that shape our lives in more ways than one. Finding a river’s source is difficult to define. Traditionally there are two ways geographers and explorers go about defining a rivers source: the most distant point upstream that provides the largest volume of water to the river, and the farthest point upstream on the longest tributary, or stream, of the river. Even when using these two definitions, geographers and explorers still can’t find a single source for the Amazon River.
