The Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History will help study and preserve a Megamouth specimen found in 2018. Megamouths are rare and little is known about them. This specimen could hold clues to the shark’s habitats, migration patterns, and life history. The researchers will take samples, then preserve the shark so it may be studied for many decades.
