A group of teens in Manchester, England, had a problem to solve: Could they convert gas-driven go-karts into electric e-karts? And could they do it in just eight months? They could and they did. The teens were taking part in the Year of Engineering, a British government campaign showing young people that engineering can be exciting and rewarding. The government is worried that not enough young people are going into engineering. The campaign is challenging traditional ideas about engineering by giving kids exciting and inspiring real-world experiences. Teams who built the e-karts will compete against each other to see whose karts are fastest and most energy-efficient.
