Tammy Duckworth has been a US Senator for Illinois since 2017. Before then, she served four years as a member of the US House of Representatives. In April 2018, she became the first US senator to give birth while holding office. Shortly before her daughter was born, the retired US Army lieutenant colonel, Iraq War veteran and double amputee wrote a “Dear Tammy” letter to herself about her life, her challenges, her failures and her successes.
