Lawmakers Push For Registration Of Recreational Drones

If you’re flying a recreational drone in the United States, pretty soon you’ll have to register it with the U.S. government. Regulators have not yet decided how registration will work, but they hope the change will make recreational drones safer to the public. One group estimates that Americans will buy nearly 700,000 drones this year. Reports of near misses with passenger planes and other aircraft have reached 100 per month. There are regulations regarding civilian drone operation, but the limits are easily passed by. Lawmakers think that requiring registration will encourage drone users to think about the impact their robots could have on air traffic and their responsibility in case of an accident.
