Russian and European space agencies are working together to send a spacecraft to explore the Moon’s south pole. This area is one of the coldest places in the solar system. Some scientists think that it might have frozen water and other important chemicals below the surface. They are hoping to mine these chemicals. The first Luna 27 missions, planned to launch in five years, will be robotic. Eventually, the space agencies hope to send humans to the Moon, possibly even starting a permanent colony there.
