A 30-second commercial during Super Bowl 50 is expected to cost a record amount. Companies will pay $5 million to air a spot during the big game, scheduled for February 7, 2016, at Levi’s Stadium, home of the San Francisco 49ers. The value of money changes over time. This is called inflation. Adjusted for inflation, a commercial cost only $268,000 for Super Bowl I in 1967. That would buy less than two seconds of an ad for Super Bowl 50.
