A 9-year-old boy originally found a small box jellyfish in a Gold Coast canal in Australia in 2013. The boy’s father contacted the Queensland Museum when he realized the jellyfish could be something special. Since 2013 scientists have been studying the 1-inch (2.5 cm) jellyfish. Researchers warn that these small jellyfish could be a sign that the larger and deadly box jellyfish are on the move. They believe that if the small jellyfish can survive in canals, than the larger ones probably can as well.
