Hydraulic fracturing, a process also known as fracking, has emerged as a major source of oil and gas in North America. But elsewhere around the world? Not so much. Fracking is a controversial practice. Some people believe it can harm the environment and people’s health. But those concerns aren’t necessarily why global fracking lags behind North American fracking. Experts suggest that North America just happens to be a great place to do it.
