Boston will bid to host the 2024 Olympic Games. The United States Olympic Committee announced last month that the United States would put forward a bid to host the 2024 Olympics — which would be the first Summer Games in the country since Atlanta hosted in 1996 — and on Thursday announced Boston would be that bid city. To win the nomination, Boston had to beat out bids from fellow U.S. cities Los Angeles, San Francisco and Washington, D.C. Now it will have to go head-to-head against bids from other candidate cities from around the world. The International Olympic Committee will determine a winner in 2017.

Many major news outlets covered this news.
