The practice of hydraulic fracturing was pioneered in Denton, Texas, but now the city is trying to stop the practice. Denton voted in November to ban the practice, known as fracking, in the city. Environmental groups hope that this decision will inspire other cities to ban fracking, but so far most of those attempts have been unsuccessful.
