Invasive species threaten both the environment and economy of Ontario, so the Canadian province is reintroducing the Invasive Species Act. If the act is passed, Ontario would become the only Canadian jurisdiction to have a standalone law about invasive species. The act would help the government prevent the introduction of invasive species and reduce the spread of invasive species already in Ontario. The goal is to be proactive so Ontario does not have to spend even more money to save its native environment in the future.
