Google’s Next Big Thing Could Be A Warp-speed Supercomputer

What makes calculations faster than any other machine in the world? A supercomputer! Google is developing what could be the world’s next supercomputer. It isn’t an easy task. Google’s supercomputer deals with quantum computing, a science so new that even expert scientists don’t fully understand it. And that isn’t the only challenge in making this supercomputer. The device also needs to be kept at just above absolute zero, the temperature at which all molecules stop moving.

But, unlike regular computers with circuits that are either on or off, a quantum computer’s circuits are “in all possible states at the same time,” which means it can work much faster. The developers hope that one day this supercomputer will help people like those who work on Wall Street, where things happen so quickly that regular computers struggle to keep up.
