Destruction For Days: Cyclone Fani’s Punishing Persistence

From April 26 through May 5, 2019, Cyclone Fani pummeled coastal areas of the Indian state of Odisha, lingering longer than any tropical cyclone in the Bay of Bengal. For 11 days, the storm raged—even as it made landfall—bringing battering winds and a 10-foot sea surge. Meteorologists in the area were astounded by Fani’s persistence, saying it had the longest life span of any cyclonic storm to hit the area.
