Teacher walkouts in six states may be influencing public opinion. More people believe that teachers should get higher pay and public schools should get more funding. In the states where teachers protested – Arizona, Colorado, Kentucky, North Carolina, Oklahoma, and West Virginia – 63 percent of people who took a poll said teachers should be paid more. All six of these states rank in the bottom 10 nationally for teacher pay. More Democrats than Republicans said teachers’ pay should go up.
