In 2017, the US Department of Commerce released a report about people working in STEM jobs (science, technology, engineering and math). Only 25 percent of these jobs are held by women, the report said. The Ad Council decided to help. It partnered with companies like Google, Microsoft, and IBM to create “She Can STEM.” Three 30-second ads show young girls shadowing real-life women professionals. One woman designs video games. One is an astronomer. One is an engineer at Boeing. It’s hoped that the ads will inspire more girls to seek careers in male-dominated fields.
