NASA wants to build an internet in the solar system. The agency is working now on getting WiFi in space. It’s not easy. Connection links are fragile. Planets are very far apart. An instant message won’t be instant, even if it’s traveling at lightspeed. NASA plans to use something called DTN – that stands for Delay/Disruption Tolerant Networking – to move packets along. It will be deployed when PACE launches in 2022. PACE is the Plankton, Aerosol, Cloud, ocean Ecosystem mission, a new Earth-monitoring satellite.
