During the summer of 2018, heavy rains fell on southern France. Flash floods turned rivers and streams into rushing torrents. Many people, including children, were on holiday at campsites. Over a thousand people were evacuated. Hundreds of firefighters and gendarmes (French police) helped in the evacuations. The rain and floods came after a hot spell when temperatures reached record-breaking highs.
