The US military has a long history of using animals in warfare. But they have never had much luck with bats. Bats can’t be trained to follow orders. They’re tiny and light, so they can’t carry much. During World War II, a top-secret plan to arm bats with miniature bombs was a flop. Today the military is looking at bats again. Bats have super-immunity. Viruses that kill people don’t bother bats. Maybe we can learn why bats are immune so we can protect ourselves against deadly bioweapons.
