Some former American prisons have become popular tourist destinations for “haunted tours.” These include prisons in Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, and Missouri. Visitors come to these prisons in search of the ghosts of former inmates. Critics of these haunted tours believe that visitors do not learn the actual history of the prisons. But the money that visitors spend on the tours helps maintain these historic buildings.
