Grandson Of Enola Gay Pilot Takes Command Of B-2 Bomb Wing

Paul W. Tibbets Jr., a member of what would become the 509th Bomb Wing, piloted the Enola Gay to Hiroshima, Japan, where he dropped the first of two atomic bombs targeted at Japan in 1945. World War II ended soon after. Sixty years later, Tibbets’ grandson Brig. Gen. Paul W. Tibbets IV is taking command of the 509th Bomb Wing. This responsibility includes overseeing the United State’s B-2 stealth bombers, which are capable of carrying nuclear weapons.
