Park officials often warn tourists that if they drop something in the Everglades, it’s gone forever. But occasionally, when water flows or dries up, the Everglades return a treasure.

Archaeologists are hoping to find one of these treasures.

In the late ‘60s, a park ranger discovered tools and weapons that hint at the remains of an ancient people. The site hasn’t been excavated until now. Water and mud slow their work, and archaeologists don’t know if site even exists anymore, but if they find more, they could learn about how people lived in the Everglades.
